Jacob Hamilton’s entrepreneurial journey is defined by talent, intention, and a deep commitment to his community. A Moravia native, Hamilton launched his career in 2013 as a sole proprietor in hair and makeup after discovering an early aptitude through award-winning work in musical theater. Rather than pursuing a traditional college path, he chose to invest in his craft—and in his hometown—steadily building a business that reflects both.
In 2022, Hamilton formally established The Hamilton Salon and Apothecary as an LLC, marking a new phase of growth and long-term vision. That momentum continued in 2025 with the purchase of a historic row house on Main Street in Moravia.
The ground floor has since been transformed into a full-service salon, complemented by a thoughtfully curated thrift and apothecary space that reflects the brand’s aesthetic and commitment to eco-friendly quality. With support from a New York Forward award, plans are underway to renovate the upper floor into a residential apartment, with completion targeted for summer 2026—bringing new life, activity, and investment to the downtown corridor.
Hamilton’s impact extends well beyond his storefront. He is deeply engaged in community leadership, serving as Secretary of the Moravia-Locke Chamber of Commerce and the Moravia Planning Board, President of the local Historical Society, Secretary of the Ethel Fuller Memorial Park Committee, and a board member and committee leader for both the Cayuga County Chamber of Commerce and Cayuga Tourism Alliance.
His business practices reflect the same values. Hamilton Salon and Apothecary operates without retail bags and dedicates a portion of every purchase to the “Hamilton Hearts” fund, which supports local community needs.
Hamilton plans to continue building on this momentum by expanding services, adding staff—including a nail technician—and introducing educational programming. He remains committed to integrating eco-friendly products and practices while strengthening the role his business plays in the community.
His goal is clear: to use both his business and personal leadership to strengthen community morale, preserve local character, and help Moravia thrive.
“While navigating commercial real estate, grant applications, and scaling my business, Michele Baran and the SBDC supported me every step of the way. I always felt like Michele was in my corner.”
We are incredibly proud of what Jacob has built in Moravia. His journey reflects the very best of small business ownership—thoughtful, resilient, and deeply rooted in community. We are grateful that he chose to partner with the SBDC as part of his entrepreneurial path, and it has been a privilege to support his continued growth and success.
It is with great enthusiasm that we recognize Jacob Hamilton as the Cayuga County Small Business of the Year for 2026. In celebration of National Small Business Week, we are honored to highlight his achievements and the meaningful impact he continues to make in his community.
