Unleashing Excellence: Peaks Performance Training Wins Jefferson County Small Business of the Year5/7/2025 We are thrilled to announce that Renee Pettey, owner of Peaks Performance Training, has been named the Jefferson County Small Business of the Year!
Renee’s story is a shining example of dedication, growth, and a true passion for her work. As a third-generation professional in the dog breeding, training, and boarding industry, Renee has continued her family’s proud tradition, which began with her grandparents in the 1960s. What started with breeding, raising, and participating in dog shows has now expanded into a full-service dog training and boarding business. Growing up immersed in the world of dog training and boarding, Renee offers a unique perspective that sets Peaks Performance Training apart from other facilities. Customers from across the country seek out her expertise through her Peaks Labrador business, and with demand growing, she already has a waiting list for her newly expanded dog boarding services. Renee attributes her success to positive customer experiences, knowing that satisfied customers will continue to return year after year and recommend her services to friends and family. As her business continued to grow, Renee partnered with Deborah Wilson of the North Central SBDC to help turn her expansion dreams into reality. With Deborah’s guidance, Renee created a detailed business plan, calculated financial projections, and navigated the process of applying for loan funding. Despite encountering challenges, including a grant program that ran out of funding, Renee praised Deborah's unwavering commitment: "Deborah worked tirelessly with me to help me get to where I am today." Thanks to her hard work and the support of the SBDC, Renee secured the necessary financing to build a brand new 28x42-foot state-of-the-art facility, complete with advanced flooring, insulation, equipment, and kennel space. She also expanded the outdoor fenced exercise yards, giving her canine guests even more room to play and thrive. Looking ahead, Renee hopes to continue expanding by adding an indoor doggie daycare facility for those cold and rainy days. Her long-term goal is to consolidate her loans, reduce interest rates, and lower operational overhead, setting Peaks Performance Training up for even greater success.
