How to Test Microsoft Teams Before Your Training Event

To ensure a smooth experience during your training event, it’s important to test Microsoft Teams beforehand. Follow the steps below to verify that your system is ready to go:

1. Update Microsoft Teams to the Latest Version
  • Windows/Mac: Open Microsoft Teams, click on your profile picture in the top-right corner, and select
  • Check for updates. The app will automatically download and install any available updates.
  • Mobile Devices: Go to your device’s app store (Google Play or Apple App Store) and search for Microsoft Teams. If an update is available, tap Update.

2. Check Your Hardware
  • Microphone: Ensure your microphone is working by testing it through your computer’s audio settings or Teams settings.
  • Camera: Verify your camera is functional and positioned correctly.
  • Speakers/Headphones: Play an audio file or test sound through Teams to confirm sound output.

3. Test Your Internet Connection
  • Run a speed test (e.g., Speedtest by Ookla) to ensure you have a stable connection.
  • Microsoft Teams works best with at least 1.2 Mbps for video calls.

4. Join a Test Meeting
Microsoft Teams provides a built-in test meeting option:
  1. Open Microsoft Teams.
  2. Click on your profile picture and select Settings.
  3. Under Devices, click Make a test call.
  4. Follow the prompts to record a short message. Teams will play it back to confirm your audio and video settings.

5. Check Your Teams Account Access
  • Log in to Microsoft Teams to ensure you can access your account.
  • Confirm that your email and password are correct.
  • If this is your first time using Teams, download the desktop or mobile app in advance for the best experience.

6. Familiarize Yourself with Key Features
Spend a few minutes exploring:
  • Mute/Unmute Button: Make sure you know how to mute and unmute yourself during the event.
  • Chat Function: Locate the chat feature to send messages during the session.
  • Raise Hand Icon: Learn how to use the “raised hand” feature to ask questions.
