SMS Messaging Terms and Conditions
1. Program Description
North Central SBDC, hosted by Onondaga Community College, provides SMS text messaging as a convenient means of communicating individually with clients and prospective clients who have requested business advising services.
Text messages may include:
• Appointment scheduling, confirmations, and reminders
• Responses to client questions and inquiries
• Requests for information or documentation
• Follow-up regarding business advising services
• Other client-specific service notifications
SMS messaging is used exclusively for individual communications between Center staff and clients. North Central SBDC does not use SMS for marketing campaigns, promotional solicitations, automated bulk messaging, or mass communications.
2. Consent to Receive Messages
Clients may voluntarily opt in to receive SMS communications through:
• Verbal consent provided during a telephone conversation or in-person interaction
• Written consent provided by email or other documented correspondence
• An affirmative response to a specific request for SMS consent
North Central SBDC documents client consent, including the date and method of authorization, in the client's information file.
Consent to receive SMS messages is voluntary and is not a condition of receiving business advising services.
3. Message Frequency and Charges
Message frequency varies depending on the client's individual needs and ongoing communication with Center staff.
North Central SBDC does not charge for SMS communications. However, message and data rates may apply depending on the client's wireless carrier and service plan.
4. Opting Out
Clients may opt out of receiving SMS messages at any time by replying STOP to a text message from North Central SBDC.
Clients may also request that SMS communications be discontinued by contacting their business advisor or the Center directly.
Following an opt-out request, SMS communications from the applicable messaging number will cease unless the client subsequently provides renewed consent.
5. Assistance
For assistance with SMS messaging, reply HELP to a text message from North Central SBDC.
Clients may also contact the Center through our website at https://www.northcentralsbdc.org.
6. Privacy and Confidentiality
North Central SBDC respects client privacy and uses mobile contact information to facilitate communications related to requested business advising services.
Mobile phone numbers, SMS opt-in information, and messaging consent will not be sold or shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes.
Clients should avoid sending Social Security numbers, financial account credentials, passwords, or other highly sensitive information through SMS.
For additional information, please review our SMS Privacy Policy.
7. Service Availability
SMS delivery depends on wireless carrier networks and other telecommunications services. North Central SBDC cannot guarantee immediate delivery or receipt of messages.
Clients may continue to communicate with the Center by telephone, email, or other available methods.
8. Changes to These Terms
North Central SBDC may periodically update these SMS Messaging Terms and Conditions. Any changes will be published on this page.
