About
Debbie started with the SBDC 3 years ago and is now a certified business advisor, working toward an advanced certification. Is a SHRM and NCHRA (North Country Human Resource Association) member and enjoys working with clients who need Human Resource assistance. It can be an extremely complicated subject and with her contacts in the industry and years of handling HR, she is able to help them navigate their issues.
She has lived in the North Country her whole life. Understands the area and how it has changed over the years. She started working in businesses 35 years ago in various roles like secretary, receptionist, account clerk, accountant, office manager, HR manager, business manager, fiscal/operations manager, and administrative manager (in charge of the office, accounting, OSHA audits, purchasing, HR, and inventory at a power plant). By working in various industries (for profit, non-profit and government), up through the ranks, 15 years of upper management experience helps one to understand the inner workings of businesses and gives her a well-rounded perspective. Also, these experiences have given her the innate ability to cut through the clutter and focus on those things that are truly important.
A strong passion for volunteer work is at her core: statistician for the local high school football team (10 yrs.), various roles at the Future’s Tour in Syracuse (5 yrs.), and past board member in varying positions for the NCHRA, Carthage Little Theater, Northern Blend Chorus, and Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired of Jefferson County. Currently serving on the board of the Watertown Downtown Business Association Convention (3rd year on the board), as the Harmony Inc. Volunteer Manager for the International Contest and Convention (4th year on the team), and decorator/designer for the Annual Festival of the Trees (Samaritan Medical Center Foundation/YMCA 10 yrs.) rounds out the volunteer work past and present.
She feels the best part about being a business advisor for the Small Business Development Center is that she has finally found her dream job, working with people to help them pursue their dream business.
