Shawni’s journey in the electrical industry began 15 years ago as an apprentice with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW). Entering a traditionally male-dominated field as a Black woman, she faced challenges that might have discouraged others. Instead, Shawni used those experiences as fuel—turning obstacles into motivation and consistently pushing beyond the status quo.
Through determination, skill, and an unwavering commitment to excellence, Shawni advanced into leadership roles on major union projects and earned her Unlimited Master’s License. These accomplishments laid the foundation for her next bold step: founding Luminary Electrical Contractor, LLC.
From the start, Luminary Electrical Services was built on a powerful vision—to create a diverse and inclusive workforce that is every bit as skilled, capable, and professional as any in the industry today. Shawni’s leadership reflects not only technical expertise, but also a deep belief in opportunity, mentorship, and raising industry standards.
With her exceptional work ethic, sharp business acumen, and commitment to excellence, Shawni is doing far more than running a successful business. She is paving the way for others to follow, redefining what leadership looks like in the trades, and proving that inclusive businesses are stronger businesses.
