Neil Miller: carbon-based lifeform

About
Neil is a complex, carbon-based lifeform. He is also a certified business advisor with the North Central SBDC, which he joined in 2022. Neil previously enjoyed dual-track careers as a serial entrepreneur and an academic, most recently as the founder of Farmshed Harvest, one of the first organic food hubs in Upstate NY, and manager of the North Star Food Hub in Watertown. Neil holds a Ph.D. in American History from Rutgers University, is an adjunct professor at Onondaga Community College, and is the education coordinator for the North Central SBDC.
Neil works Monday through Thursday at the NC SBDC offices at Onondaga College and on Fridays at the City of Syracuse Department of Neighborhood and Business Development. He works primarily with clients in the Greater Syracuse area who are looking to start new or expand existing businesses and who require business plans and/or financial projections to obtain financing. Neil also has expertise in food and farming-related business issues; sales, marketing and distribution; and is a NY SBDC certified expert in crowdfunding.
Neil is particularly passionate about assisting small, independently owned-and-operated businesses to put down roots in local communities, employ residents, and offer an alternative to national “Big Box” brands and corporations. He draws inspiration from repeated readings of E. F. Schumacker, Small is Beautiful: Economics as if People Mattered; Woody Tasch, Inquiries into the Nature of Slow Money; and Bill McKibben, Deep Economy: The Wealth of Communities and the Durable Future.
Neil’s door is always open. Come by and have a cup of tea.
